Parent's Corner - Celebrating the Festive Season: Embracing Each Unique Celebration

Connect & Grow Magazine: Issue 15 November - December 2024

Ah, the festive season—where twinkling lights and holiday cheer bring joy, laughter, and a few, let’s say… “quirky” family moments. For some, this season is a time of togetherness; for others, it can stir up a mix of emotions. No matter what Christmas looks like for you, know it’s okay to feel all of it. Remember to connect with those who fill your cup and light up your heart.

Families are excellent, but let’s be real: they can be challenging, too! Remind yourself that while you can pick your friends (and even your nose), you can’t pick your family. Lean into the time spent together rather than stressing over what’s under the tree. This is a reminder for parents that quality time is the best gift. Create memories, laugh together, and maybe skip that last-minute dash for one more gift—the togetherness truly counts.

If you’re fortunate this season, consider sharing with your children that not everyone will unwrap a pile of presents. Encourage them to appreciate their gifts but also stay humble. A beautiful guideline to simplify gift-giving is “One thing they want, one thing they need, one thing to wear, and one thing to read.” It’s an approach that keeps things special without overwhelming.

Above all, take a breath and don’t be hard on yourself. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your kids is to love them—and tell them! When did you last sit down with your kiddos and tell them how much you adore them? It’s powerful for you and them to hear and feel that love.

So here’s to you and your family, however you celebrate. Raise a glass (or a tea, wine, or whatever you fancy), and toast to a safe, loving holiday season. Much love and warm wishes,
